Hanging Rock Views

Welcome to our beautiful property. The views are amazing, taking in 180 degree with Hanging Rock so close you feel you could touch it!

Features on the horizon are numerous, ranging from Springhill where Paul Bangay’s renowned garden is, then across to Mount Alexander and the historic Castlemaine full of art and artisans. From this land mark looking straight ahead is the Jim Jim where Hanging Rock Winery (open 364 days a year) stocks a fabulous collection of locally grown medal winning wines encompassing a variety of grapes that mean everyone’s tastes are accommodated.

Next, one sees the famous Hanging Rock that features in the book and movie, Picnic at Hanging Rock, so we recommend you visit this former volcano of rocky outcrops for a picnic, or lunch at the cafe. The other option is to enjoy viewing this from your room or private patio/balcony with a glass of local wine and a taste of sensational local produce. Woodend (5km away) has many stores which stock these as well as many craft and artisan products to purchase or peruse. Watch brewers at work in Holgate Brewhouse, enjoying a local ale.

Behind Hanging Rock you have a view to the “Cobaw Ranges” mountains that run between Kyneton and Lancefield townships. Both these places are worth visiting and historic bluestone Kyneton known as the best town in Victoria for both serious and casual dining… so many great restaurants to choose from. Lancefield is the classic country Victorian town with a super wide main street with brewery/pub Lost Watering Hole, and a visit to Cleveland Winery with restaurant and cellar, a must!

Your view doesn’t stop there… as Mount William on the horizon is close to Lancefield and features a greenstone quarry used by the local indigenous people and the greenstone from here was traded all over Australia.

Indigenous Culture is part of this country, which three tribes shared as a meeting place. To understand more about the Wurundjeri, Taungurung, and Dja Dja Wurrung tribes, as well as the geographic history wander over to the Visitor Centre at Hanging Rock Reserve. A fee is charged of $10 per vehicle and is payable at the cafe.

So much to see and do… wineries, artisan workshops, dining out, nature reserves for wonderful walks, rides and scenery, not to mention wildlife on your doorstep… literally! You will want a few days to make the most of your visit.

Hanging Rock Views is home to around 300 kangaroos who graze right up to the rooms, there are numerous birds, koalas, wombats, and deer live here too. Our feathered residents are magpies, kookaburras, eagles, cockatoos, galahs, parrots of many varieties and many smaller birds.

The property’s 135 acres has many species of native flora, cascades and a waterfall that can be viewed on your wanders through the bush. There are huge wattles, blackwoods, gumtrees of many varieties, wild cherry, hazel pomaderris, common cassinia, many small native plants, flowers, and orchids to be discovered.

On the property there are exotic remnants of past habitation with 150 year old elms, cherry laurels, daffodils, etc in the area where a previous home stood not far from your room.
